As an agency in Washtenaw County that serves a diverse, international population, the mission of JFS is to create solutions, promote dignity and inspire humanity.
Over the years, JFS has grown from a three-person office with a $35,000 operating budget to a staff of 32, dozens of volunteers, an active, involved board and a new division, The Herb Amster Center.
In 2011 alone, Jewish Family Services provided solutions for nearly 2,500 of the most vulnerable individuals in the community:
• Transportation Services made over 3,000 round trips to medical and other appointments for elderly and disabled individuals
• 483 Older Adults received services such as social services, caregiver consultations, and accompaniment to medical appointments though the Patient Partners program
• 357 people received financial assistance through the JFS network of community resources
• 324 persons received crisis management services
• 98 persons received resettlement and post resettlement assistance
Entering into our 20th year marks a turning point for the agency. As we strive to become less grant dependent, we look to offer new, fee-based services to strengthen our foundation for a sustainable future.
